I was just curious if anyone could recomend a light novel or scifi fantasy series.

Btw I tend to tear through novels and series at the speed of light so quality and quantity is always appreciated.

i can greatly recommend "Legendary Moonlight Sculptor". It is a korean (Web-)novel.
Currently are 20 Volumes translated, as the author only gave permission to do as far.

There is an ongoing translation for volume 21+ as far as i know. Whole story at 44 or 45 Volumes till now and still no end in sight Very Happy

you should google for Baka tsuki to get the LMS volumes after vl.20

LMS is a great series, I think its nearing its conclusion but there's probably at least 3 more years to go.

I would also recommend almost any series that Japtem translates. If it weren't for Arifuta, I would recommend them all. I'd start with Kill No More, its kind of a future set world with a blend of magic and tech in a Wuxia setting. UL is another one I would recomend and Yeenie is really nice. It's very slow paced but its quite interesting and has the weakest OP MC in all of fiction.

Thanks for the replies I have read LMS and love it. I also tead just about everything on japtem except arif.

Yeenie?

I don't know what you mean by sci-fi fantasy, but I would recommend Frank Herbert's Dune as my favorite sci-fi that I have read up to this date. The first book was my favorite by far, but the rest of the series was also good, maybe with the exception of the fourth book.

Ah to clarify science fiction or fantasy. Also dune was excellent also a nice length for a series if you read them all, although I somewhat fell out of it after the authors switched.

I could recommend one series, which would probably take you a while to tear through:

Malazan Book of the Fallen

Think you know epic fantasy? Well, unless you've already read it, you don't have a clue just how epic fantasy can get. Possibly disregarding his new series (prequel of sorts, taking place in the same universe but much earlier), The Kharkanas Trilogy, which I have yet to start, MBotF is simply the best piece of fiction I've ever read. Nothing else comes even close. As far as I'm concerned, Steven Erikson is the god of fantasy literature, completely in a class of his own.

His friend, Ian C. Esslemont writes novels placed in the same world (they created it together, originally as an RPG world), which are also very, very good.

Oh, and on the light novel front, I could recommend Rakuin no Monshou. Well, not entirely sure if it classifies as a "light" novel, but regardless, it's the best thing I've yet to read in Baka-Tsuki. Too bad the translation is stalled...

I loved Malazan when I read the books, but I sort of didn't pick up any after House of Bones and I'm completely lost in the plot now.

One thing I love about it is also what can make it somewhat hard to read; Erikson isn't very explicit about what's going on or how things are done, and you're sort of expected to read between the lines or just accept that what's happening is possible until the 'how' is detailed three volumes later.

I believe I have read both and Malazan is one of the series I readily recomend after the first book I believe it really picks up and becomes amazing.

Already read it, huh...

Yeah, the first book... I spent like half a year reading the first half of the first book, on the bus on my way to work and back... Then I got hooked and devoured the rest of the book.

What else, let's see... I recently enjoyed The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima. The first book is so-so, but after that, it became very entertaining. Kingmaker, Kingbreaker by Karen Miller was also pretty good, though I found it much weaker in pure entertainment value. Most other Western fantasy series I've read are older stuff, since I don't actually read much of that anymore. I've moved almost completely to manga/anime/light novels. Which is a pity, really, my bookshelf is full of interesting novels I have yet to get around to read.

Well, if we're just recommending anything in sci-fi and fantasy, here are some of my favourite series:

The Honor Harrington Saga - Possibly the penultimate work in the military space opera genre. Follow captain Honor Harrington's rise in the fleet of the Star Kingdom of Manticore.

The Vorkosigan Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold's epic spy themed space opera series about the crippled scion of House Vorkosigan and his adventures as a mercenary, spy, diplomat and magistrate, starting from how his parents met.

The Dresden Files - The renowned urban fantasy series about the wizard private detective Harry Dresden.

The Courts of the Fayrie - Starting with Sixty-One Nails, a brilliant urban fantasy trilogy about becoming fae.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Temeraire novel series. A sort of alternate history setting of the Napoleonic wars with domesticated dragons.

I'll also recommend the Joy of Life wuxia series. Translation hasn't gotten very far, but it's still quite interesting. Another reincarnation story.

I didn't see Coiling Dragon being mention yet.
It's quite addicting. The MC is kind of OP like Tang San, but in a very good way. He's OP compare to those his age, but compare to the world, he's still not there yet.

I've been following CD closely, especially now that RWX started the donation scheme and began spitting out updates. I've also tried reading ahead a bit, but I can't keep at it for long enough that RWX isn't catching up before I've finished the next two chapters.

Hahaha! Yeah, I would like to comment on that double-edge donation scheme, but let leaves at that.

On another hand, I recently stubble upon a book called Red Rising. It's...a surprising SF book which incorporates some well-known themes that is often seen in japanese novels. You got the gore (not for the faint soul with wild imagination); you got the life-changing twist (not reincarnation); you got the survival battles in form of class and you got the big revolution plot as the background. The big problem with this trilogy is it's still an ongoing series with the second book schedule to be out on the 6th of january 2015. I can recommended the first book only. ^^;;

I must double-recommend Coiling Dragon.
It's so exciting that I've read all the available translated chapters (up to Book 4 Chapter 15 this moment) in less than 48 hours. Spent the weekend at it and couldn't stop. So good... the same thing happened to Duoluo Dalu, I dunno if it's because they're a perfect match for my tastes or they're just that good that you can't stop reading.

I just want to say that I can now recommended the second book of The Red Rising Trilogy, Golden Son. I cut down a few hours of my sleep just to finish reading it on my kindle. I even broke down in tears at some parts, not sure if it was truly sad or i'm just emotionally unstable from lack of sleep. Either way, after reading it, i'm anticipating the last book coming out next year.

On a random note, eReaders are one evil invention. It's so practical that I can bring it everywhere and read lots of things wherever and whenever I want....reading on the bowl will never ever be the same again...
On a second random note, a few days ago, I accidentally brought and download a book I thought would be a science-fiction on time travel. What a surprise it was when I realized, after a few pages of wondering why the heck the style is so different from the usual, that I just bought by accident an erotic time-traveling romance novel. I still read until the end, but I won't really recommended it though. It's not as good as when I read Anne Rice's novel for fun just to knows what erotic in words was like.
